On the 3rd of July 2006 it all got under way. Waters had broken overnight and we were at the hospital around 8am. By 12:16 our son was out in the world with us. At 52cm and 3730g he's on the solid side of average (but just you wait!). Here he's catching his first breaths after some hard work together with his mum.

After about an hour we were driven (battery powered three-in-a-line seater) through some corridors to the patient-hotel. First time mothers are allowed 4 days in the patient-hotel in normal circumstances with their new baby. Fathers can stay as well for a good price.

So, here is our boy sleeping in our hotel room.

Bedtime every night starts with time for bare-bottom hopping. The diciplin includes hop-hop bom (landing on bottom), hop-hop cuddle, hop-hop turn, hop-hop kiss and just plain regular hopping for ages when it's the last hop before the nappy. The order of events is usually as follows:
- Trousers off then hop.
- Top off then hop.
- Nappy on then hop.
- Pyjamas on then hop-hop-hop-hop-hop.
